Is This Yours

In the video component of ‘Is This Yours’ (exhibited with NYCMOCA 2026), further investigates the materials introduced in the installation: ten black shoulder bags, each holding a brick that fits precisely inside. The installation invites viewers to consider not only the weight they carry, but the impulse to act upon it. The video extends this inquiry, revealing what that weight and action might represent. Structured within a grid, nine individuals are paired with a bag and its brick and asked to share what weight the brick represents for them in that moment. Underscoring the tension between individual experience and shared circumstance, Cooper underlays the footage with a grid drawing that builds gradually over the course of the video. Each line is drawn in response to the figures on screen, functioning as both a structural element and an active presence within the composition.
